Whether you’re washing the windows, cleaning out the gutters, or just straightening up around the yard or shed, take a few minutes to clean and maintain your outdoor security cameras while you’re at it!
Your outdoor cameras can be especially prone to dirt, dust, and grime build-up. Regular cleaning can help ensure your cameras are ready to record high-quality footage when you need it most.

If the camera is at an easy-to-reach height, you can start with a can of compressed air. To clean any stubborn particles stuck on the glass, first spray a cotton or microfiber cloth with water or glass cleaner, then wipe the glass. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cloths, which may result in scratches. For cameras installed at height, attach a cloth with cleaner to an extension pole, which is easy to find at any hardware store.
Avoid power washing the cameras, which may damage the glass protecting the lens or other sensitive components.
Once you’ve cleaned the lens, you can use a damp cloth to wipe the camera body off. Dry the camera with a dry cloth to ensure no water spots are left behind!
While you’re cleaning, look the camera over for any loose parts or other visible damage. If something looks wrong, give the Heartland Security team a call at 888-264-6380!
