Every other Friday, we’re shining a spotlight on an employee to help you get to know us better.

This week’s Employee Spotlight features our medical monitoring manager, Carrie Schiltz.

1. What is your job title?

Medical Monitoring Manager

2. What do you do at Heartland Security?

I oversee the medical alert side of our business plus cover the Fillmore/Houston/Winona county areas installing and servicing our medical alert systems. I order and program equipment, which I send on to our other 8 medical monitoring techs, as well as help them troubleshoot situations. I also receive daily reports of activity from WHIRC (Wright-Hennepin International Response Center) and work closely with Andrea and Nancy in the main office to create service tickets for our customers.

3. How long have you been with Heartland Security?

I have worked for Heartland Security since July 2008 when they took over Tri-County Electric’s medical monitoring program. I worked in member services for Tri-County Electric Cooperative for 10 years.

4. What’s your favorite thing about working at Heartland Security?

Ever since my first job in high school working in a nursing home, I have especially enjoyed working with the elderly. This led to my degree in social work. Besides working with the great bunch of Heartland Security employees, I am privileged to be able to meet people in their homes, teach them about our medical alert system, and make sure they feel more at ease about this new change by the time we are finished. I always try to be mindful that every visit is a chance to bring a little sunshine into someone’s life.

5. What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I am currently learning Spanish.

6. What do you do when you’re not working?

My husband Troy and I live in the beautiful blufflands of southeastern Minnesota, so we enjoy the rivers, hills, and bike trails as much as possible. And when the mountains call, it’s off to my favorite state to visit – Colorado. There is new territory to explore in New York as our son Carl is in grad school at Cornell. Our daughter Carina is currently doing her pastoral internship in Wisconsin, another beautiful state to explore. Another favorite activity is working on social justice issues through my church.
