MELROSE, Minn. (July 31, 2026) Heartland Security and People’s Security Company today announced the transition of People’s Security Company’s monitored security customer accounts to Heartland Security, marking a collaborative effort between two Minnesota electric cooperative organizations to ensure customers continue receiving trusted, local security services for years to come.

The transition reflects a shared commitment to serving communities through the cooperative business model. By working together, the organizations are building on the Cooperative Principle of Cooperation Among Cooperatives—partnering to strengthen services while keeping decisions and support close to home.

“One of the greatest strengths of the cooperative model is our willingness to work together for the benefit of the people and communities we serve,” said Jess Duncan, Heartland Security President. “This transition allows us to welcome new customers while continuing the local, personal service they’ve come to expect. We’re honored that People’s Security Company has entrusted us with that responsibility.”

As accounts transition to Heartland Security, customers can expect uninterrupted alarm monitoring, experienced local technicians, responsive customer support, and ongoing communication to help them get the most from their security systems. Existing monitoring services will continue without interruption.

“This partnership is a great example of the Cooperative Principle of Cooperation Among Cooperatives in action,” said Luke Johnson, chairman of the Heartland Security Board of Governors. “By working together, we’re preserving local service, investing in the long-term strength of our cooperative businesses, and ensuring customers continue receiving the trusted support they deserve. That’s exactly what cooperative ownership is meant to accomplish.”

Tim Thompson, People’s Security CEO, said the decision was made with customers’ long-term interests in mind. “Our priority has always been to provide dependable service to our customers,” Thompson said. “Heartland Security shares our cooperative values, our commitment to customer service, and our focus on supporting local communities. We are confident our customers will be well cared for throughout this transition and into the future.”

Heartland Security, based in Melrose, Minnesota, has provided residential and commercial security services across Minnesota and Iowa since 1999. Its team lives and works in the same communities it serves, offering professional installation, monitoring, maintenance, and customer support backed by local expertise.

While ownership of the security accounts is changing, customers can expect a seamless transition. Heartland Security will communicate directly with customers regarding billing, payment options, and any questions they may have throughout the process.

This transition demonstrates how cooperative organizations can work together to strengthen services, preserve local relationships, and continue investing in the communities they serve. By leveraging each organization’s strengths, Heartland Security and People’s Security Company are ensuring customers continue receiving reliable security services from organizations rooted in cooperative values.
